UK Vape Ban: Can You Bring Vapes Back From Abroad?

UK travelers returning from holidays abroad face fines if they attempt to bring disposable vapes back for commercial purposes. While the UK banned the sale and supply of single-use vapes in June 2025, bringing them across the border for personal use remains legal.

Markus Lindblad, head of legal and external affairs at Haypp, clarified the distinction: "You can bring a disposable vape back into the UK as long as it is strictly for your own personal use. While the sale and supply of single-use vapes is now banned in the UK, possessing them or bringing a small quantity through customs is not illegal."

Understanding Airline Safety Rules for Vaping Devices

Beyond customs regulations, travelers must navigate strict airline safety protocols. Because vape batteries pose a fire hazard, all devices must be packed in carry-on bags rather than checked luggage.

"In the past, airlines have had to divert their route due to a lithium battery on board catching fire," Lindblad warned. "It’s really important you triple-check your bags and make sure any vape devices are in your hand luggage before you fly."

    Comparing Airline Vape Policies

Different carriers enforce specific limits on the number of devices and battery capacities allowed in the cabin. Travelers should review these limits before departure.

    AirlineVape Device & Battery Limits
Jet2Permits e-cigarettes with batteries not exceeding 160Wh; must protect against accidental activation.
EasyJetDevices must be in the cabin and fully switched off; maximum of two spare batteries allowed in carry-on.
RyanairAllows up to 15 electronic devices and 20 lithium batteries per passenger (each battery under 100Wh).

    Liquid Restrictions at Airport Security

Vape liquids remain subject to standard airport security rules. Most airports enforce a 100ml limit per container, though some European hubs, including Munich, Rome, Dublin, and Prague, have removed this restriction. Travelers should verify the rules of both their departure and arrival airports to avoid confiscation.
